Our Commitment to GMO Transparency: Your Right to Know
Committed to Transparency
At Whole Foods Market, we believe you have the right to know what’s in your food. So we’re the first national grocery chain committed to providing GMO (genetically modified organism) transparency for our customers. We are well on our way to meeting our 2018 deadline. Currently, we offer more than 25,000 organic and 11,500 Non-GMO Project Verified products.
Paving the Way
We are the first to do a lot of this work with GMO transparency, and our initiative includes all of the food we sell. It takes time to work through the details, and we owe it to our customers and supplier partners to not rush into decisions that could affect them adversely. We are working hard and are committed to providing our customers with information to help them make choices — something that isn’t available anywhere else.
How to Shop to Avoid GMOs
Nearly all grocery stores in the U.S. sell foods with GMOs. They are pervasive — more than 70% of packaged foods in the U.S. contain GMOs, and the federal government does not require disclosure of GMOs in food. The good news is that we have solid tips for How to Shop if You're Avoiding GMOs.
Your local store is unique and our product mix varies from store to store. Download a list of items in your local store that are Non-GMO Project verified.
*Our product mix varies from store to store, so not all products will be available in all stores.
